Hidejiro Honjō / Shamisen Unlimited

Shamisen is a traditional Japanese long-necked lute, whose three strings are plucked with a large ‘bachi’ plectrum. One of the masters of this instrument is Hidejiro Honjō, who in 2018 received the title of cultural ambassador of Japan. We prepared a limited edition of posters for his concert at the Archa Theater in Prague, where he was accompanied by Akihito Obama on a shakuhachi and singing Annabelle Plum.

The main motive of the poster are stylized three strings of shamisen, each of which consists of a strip of traditional Japanese printing pattern, and a large ‘bachi’ pick. The silver, screen-printed color stands out great on black Keaykolour paper. We would like to thank Anna and Marek Matvija from the NEIRO Association for Expanding Arts for this great cooperation. The concert was supported by the City of Prague, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Japan Foundation.
